Why Relying on a 3-Hour Window to Charge Your Battery Isn’t the Best Option

While this idea sounds cost-saving and clever, it overlooks a crucial technical issue that could turn your “free power” plan into an unwanted hassle: the main breaker limit on your electrical supply. Let’s break down why this matters and what you risk by ignoring it.

The Main Breaker Bottleneck

Every home’s switchboard is equipped with a main circuit breaker — on single-phase homes, common sizes are 63A or 100A. The breaker is a safety device that prevents drawing more current (amps) than your wiring and infrastructure can handle. When you attempt to charge a large battery in a short window rapidly, the charge rate (measured in kilowatts or kW) translates to very high current draw:
